SomaNet:
                      Bodywork Network/Study Group

Bodyworkers give a lot. It is important to nurture and support our own growth and well-being as well.

The Bodywork Network is intended to promote community of bodyworkers -- a safe, supportive environment for us to explore our boundaries and issues, as professionals and as individuals -- and to draw from our collective knowledge and wisdom, to share and explore what we know and who we are (becoming).

Community implies choice. Community doesn't just happen. One makes the choiceful commitment to belong, to invest, to build. Similarly, The Bodywork Network requires a commitment -- a personal decision to make a (renewable) commitment to be actively involved in a group (ad)venture.

We would like to promote the intimacy and security of a consistent, committed group, working together. To begin, we will meet as a group once every other week (this frequency may be adjusted as we find desirable). There will be opportunities for discussion & investigation. There will be opportunities for hands-on work & play. Various themes -- gravity & weight; mutual support; letting go; simplicity; following the thread; spaciousness; stillness; meeting; arising; reaching; being vulnerable; watching; finding the core; intimacy & distance; etc. -- provide a container for exploration. We will share the roles of teacher and student. So as not to become simply a gathering of technicians, promulgating techniques, we will use mindfulness and an attention to the activity/presence of the heart/spirit as our foundation.

Further, to explore and promote new models of access and sustainability, The Bodywork Network will be organized around the principles of offering and support for that which is worthy of support. There will be no set fees, but rather an opportunity to give, to work with money as energy/fuel for feeding an endeavor we want to continue and to grow. Most of us are willing to feed our bodies -- to nurture ourselves with a good meal in the company of friends. If we will each contribute the cost of a good meal, the group can be sustained, while promoting "right livelihood" for the teachers and the practice of generosity (selfless giving) for both teachers and students.

Barry Kapke is a well-known and respected bodyworker & teacher, and the originator of Bodhiwork. He will be one of the principal instructors/ facilitators for the group. Bodywork will include both table work and floor work. Meetings will be hosted by the San Francisco School of Massage, Sunday evenings.
