A: We can deliver the data to you through one of several channels: by mailing floppy disks via first class mail; by downloading the data from our ftp site; by uploading the data to an ftp site of your choice; and by emails (preferably for small files). The prefered method is that we upload our data to your ftp site. Q: If I subscribe to your service, how is the data updated? A: We can first deliver the bulk of the data file to you by using floppy disks or ftp. Updating can be done by sending to you the new data by ftp or email. Using the program we provide, the new data segments can be easily appended to your existing one. Currently, we only provide monthly updates. Q: How is your data organized? A: Historical quotes for each stock or fund is contained in a separate file and are stored in one of 26 directories, A to Z. For AAPL (Apple Computer) will be in directory A. Q: How much data do you have in your database? A: Our historical data starts from 1/1/90. Currently we have about 9000 stocks and 5800 mutual fund entries in our database, totaling about 15000 entries. Uncompressed, the data is over 400 MB. With compression, the entire database can be delivered in about 80MB. Q: Can I order data of only one market? A: Yes you can order historical data for any one of NYSE, AMEX or NASDAQ. If you only want a smaller selection, the number of symbols will be charged in blocks of 500, be it stocks or mutual funds. Here by 'blocks of 500', we mean historical quotes of 500 individual equities. For example, a 500 trading days of historical quotes on IBM and AAPL are two equities, NOT two blocks of 500. Therefore a 500 trading days of historical quotes on one block of 500 equities contains 250,000 daily prices. Q: Is your stock data split adjusted ? A: Yes, our stock data is split adjusted. This avoids false alarms in your technical analysis software. Q: Do you have other financial information on earning, dividends, fund distributions, etc? A: No, we only carry daily open, high, low, close and volume for NYSE, AMEX, and NASDAQ stocks, and all mutual funds traded in the United States. Our fund data does not have distribution information. For other information on dividends and earnings, indices, etc, you may have to rely on more expensive paid service. Q: I have Metastock (or some other technical analysis software), can I use your data with my software? A: Yes. Because our data is in plain ASCII, comma delimited format, it can be easily imported into your program. All commercial technical analysis softwares support ASCII importing feature. For those who can only use data in Metastock format, we can deliver the data in Metastock format at the cost of a $20 processing charge. Q: My software can not use the daily open price of your data, but your data has open prices, what can I do? A: You need to tell us when ordering that you do not want the open price in the data, we will remove the open prices before delivery. Q: Is your data compressed? A: Yes. Our data is compressed before delivery. We can compress the data in one of several formats. The default format will be the popular pkzip format (file.zip). The other method is to use the more efficient compression that is common in the UNIX world: tar and gzip (Gnu zip). Identical shareware for tar and gzip also can be readily obtained from most popular ftp sites. The data is archived by the stock or fund symbol. Q: Can you provide full names of the symbols requested? A: Yes, we will provide the full company or fund name for historical quotes on all the stock or fund tickers you purchase from us. Q: If I only give you the company or mutual fund name, can you provide the quote data along with their ticker symbols? A: Although it is possible, but it is very time consuming, therefore we require you provide the ticker symbols, unless you only want data for a particular market, in which case we will provide all the data along with the full names. Q: What software would you recommend for charting and analyzing your data? A: One very good Windows shareware is Parity1.5. This program can be obtained by ftp from most popular ftp sites. It's a shareware, registration $79, and is well worth the price. There are many other DOS/Windows based commerical software, shareware and freeware that can also use our data. Q: Do you have CDROM for your data? A: We do not deliver the data by CDROM at this moment. But things may change in the near future. Stay tuned.
