POST The President announced today that he intends to nominate David Birenbaum to be Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations for Management and U.N. Reform, with the rank of Ambassador. Birenbaum is a partner in the Washington, DC office of the law firm of Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson, where he heads the international practice. He has also taught courses in international law at the University of Pennsylvania Law School and the Georgetown Law Center, and has served as a public member of the U.S. Delegation to the U.N. Commission on Human Rights, and a consultant to the U.S. Mission to the United Nations on the proposal to establish an international criminal court. A 56-year old native of Waterbury, CT, Birenbaum is a graduate of Brown University and Harvard Law School. He is married to Vanessa Ruiz, the District of Columbia's Principal Deputy Corporation Counsel. He has two children and two stepchildren. # # #
