THE WHITE HOUSE Office of the Press Secretary ________________________________________________________________________ For Immediate Release January 11, 1995 CONFERENCE FOR TRADE AND INVESTMENT IN IRELAND SET The White House Conference for Trade and Investment in Ireland will be held in Washington May 18-19. Senator George Mitchell, Special Advisor to the President and the Secretary of State for Economic Initiatives in Ireland, will take the lead role in preparing for the Conference, which is aimed at showing U.S. companies that sustained peace is dramatically improving business opportunities on the island of Ireland and, particularly, in Northern Ireland and the border counties. Senator Mitchell will be working closely with Commerce Secretary Ronald Brown, whom the President has asked to present at the Conference a strategic plan for continued U.S. involvement in Irish economic development. The President looks forward to participating in this Conference on May 19. He announced the Conference on November 1, 1994 as part of his package of economic initiatives designed to support the peace process in Northern Ireland. # # #
