THE WHITE HOUSE Office of the Press Secretary ________________________________________________________________________ For Immediate Release June 2, 1995 PRESIDENT CLINTON DECLARES MAJOR DISASTER IN MISSOURI The President today declared a major disaster in Missouri and ordered federal funds to supplement state and local recovery efforts in communities struck by severe storms, hail, tornadoes and flooding beginning on May 13, 1995 and continuing. The President's action today makes federal funding available to affected local governments in 12 Missouri counties: Benton, Boone, Cole, Gasconade, Franklin, Jefferson, Johnson, Miller, St. Charles, St. Clair, Ste. Genevieve and St. Louis. Federal funding is available to eligible local governments on a cost sharing basis for regular repair or replacement of public facilities damaged by the severe weather. Federal funding is also available on a cost sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is continuing to conduct damage surveys in other areas of Missouri. Additional counties may be added after the assessments are complete. -30-30-30-
