THE WHITE HOUSE Office of the Press Secretary ________________________________________________________________________ For Immediate Release June 12, 1995 President Names Victor Jackovich as Ambassador to the Republic of Slovenia The President announced today his intention to nominate Victor Jackovich, of Iowa, a Career Member of the Senior Foreign Services Class Of Minister-Counselor, as Ambassador to the Republic of Slovenia. Jackovich most recently served as Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Prior to that assignment, he Served as the U.S. Representative to the International Conference on the Former Yugoslavia, 1992-93. In 1992, he was Director of the Department of State Coordinating Group on Yugoslavia and charge d'affaires, American Embassy, Chisinau, Moldova. From 1991-92, he was the Executive Assistant to the Counselor at the United States Information Agency. Prior to that, he was enrolled in Bulgarian Language Training School at the Department of State, 1990-91; Cultural Affairs Officer in Moscow in the former Soviet Union, 1988-90; Country Affairs Officer, United States Information Agency, 1986-88; Information Officer in Nairobi, Kenya, 1983-86; Cultural Affairs Officer in Bucharest, Romania, 1980-83; and Branch Public Affairs Officer, Kiev in the former Soviet Union, 1979-80. Jackovich also served as the Chief of the Yugoslav Service at the Voice of America, 1976-78. Jackovich graduated from Indiana University B.A., 1970; M. A., 1971). He was born on April 24, 1948, in Des Moines, Iowa. Jackovich is married and has one child.
