THE WHITE HOUSE Office of the Press Secretary ________________________________________________________________________ For Immediate Release October 13, 1995 PRESIDENT NAMES GERALD WESLEY SCOTT TO BE AMBASSADOR TO THE REPUBLIC OF THE GAMBIA The President today announced his intention to nominate Gerald Wesley Scott of Oklahoma, a Career Member of the Senior Foreign Service, as Ambassador to the Republic of The Gambia. Mr. Scott has served in Kenya, Swaziland, Italy, Vietnam, Morocco, Gabon and at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations in New York City. He also served in various positions in Washington in the Department of State and is currently the Deputy Chief of Mission at the American Embassy in Kinshasa, Zaire. Mr. Scott was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on August 7, 1940. He attended Georgetown University, where he received a bachelor's degree in 1962. He served on active duty in the Naval Reserve from 1962 to 1967, the last year as an advisor to the Vietnamese Navy in Da Nang, Vietnam. He received a master's degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies in 1969, following which he joined the Foreign Service. In 1975, Gerald Wesley Scott married the former Frances Gardner-Brown. They have two sons, Charles and Michael. Mr. Scott's is fluent in French and Italian. -30-30-30-
