The best basketball book (and one of the best books on any sport) that I have ever read is _Loose Balls_ by Terry Pluto. This book details the all-too-brief history of the ABA (American Basketball Association). The format is actual text framing exerpts from interviews with the owners, league officials, refs, sports journalists, and, of course, the players who lived the ABA experience. It gives a tremendously insightful glimpse into a truly unique organized sports experience. This *is* the league that gave pro basketball the red, white, and blue basketball, the three-point shot, short point guards, and the slam dunk contest. Organized lunacy at its most humerous and most moving (yikes, I sound like a book review!). --Chris M cmaka@io.com Austin, TX
