I have recently begun receiving Superclamp communiques via my fax. I like how they speak to the female experience; however, there is one aspect of Superclamp I remain unmoved by - namely, the focus on Chapel Hill. I live and work in Raleigh and I would think that having moved beyond your local area in distribution, you would move on to subject matter as well. Why not make your focus more universal?
Not A Slacker
Dear Not,
We have considered this issue and have come to a conclusion. As Faulkner's deep but narrow focus on Yoknapatawpha County paradoxically allowed him to explore universal humanity all the better, so it is with the Clampettes and our beloved Chapel Hill. Our zine's focus on the particulars of our lives, in place as well as gender, will remain. Additionally, if you ever read Spin magazine or other like-minded publications, you'll have to admit that Chapel Hill is not a bad choice as a microcosm of culture in the early-going-on-mid 90's. So relax, Raleigh office worker. And maybe, if you peer deep into your own soul, you'll wish to join us on the fast track to fun. the Clampettes
