Licensing considerations for software archived at ibiblio
First you really should look at the Open Source Initiative website - they are the best authority on what the licensing issues are. In particular, look at the page on licensing options: http://opensource.org/licenses/index.html
There are four main licenses that are used for Open Source software - to take the quick route, you might want to just select one of these:
- The GNU General Public License (GPL)
- The GNU Library or "Lesser" Public License (LGPL)
- The BSD license
- The MIT license
The super-quick route is to just specify 'GNU General Public License (GPL)'. This is the oldest and most common.
You MUST specify a license when you submit your software. Just stating 'freeware' or 'shareware' isn't enough. Thanks!
