Konsole-0.8.2, 28 Apr 1998

The material contained in here is the second release of an ongoing work
for a VT102+ emulation (xterm, linux console, ktv) widget.

It is not only ment to be integrated in Kom, but also to replace kvt when
it becomes mature enough.

Due to an unintended clash with the name of a fine program this project
is renamed to from `kterm' to `konsole' (no, it does not read /dev/console
in the moment). My apology to the author of the mentioned program.

The current state is a (near) complete VT102 emulation with mouse features
taken from xterm. Be warned that konsole is currently beta, so it is not
a proper replacement for kvt, yet.

Anyway, the state has been improved somewhat since the last release,
especially a fancy setup, a nice frame and cut'n'paste have been added,
so konsole has not only got a face but also became more usable.

Mainly, you'll miss (in the order of importance):

- history buffer (and connected with this an optional scrollbar)
- sometimes monochrome rendition attributes (bold, underline)
- command line options
- keypad
- dynamic TABs.
- minor others

Due to the advanced state of the project and the more frequent releases
i've changed the release policy and release this project as a separate
tarball.

Note that this release is intended for developers who wan't to get their
hands on a Qt VT102 emulation widget and/or on some documentation related
to the common emus, for beta testers and for curious people, of course.

Hmm, you might be interested in the fact, that konsole also emulates
the linux console pretty well, meanwhile. Export TERM=linux, eventually
set VGA font and enjoy. [Note that running mc under X11 with a TERM value
different from `xterm' is not so much fun; mc then does not recognize
mouse events anymore and resize events first when the next key is pressed.]

Those interested in reusing the the widget are warmly welcome to do so.
I've added a separate goal in the Makefile for this purpose, which creates
a proper shareable library.

Meanwhile i would appreachiate any of your comments and reports.

Share and enjoy,

  Lars
