2004-03-02 -+- Patrick -+- -+- Good Article.
Gambas is already at .90 and is adding conveniences (in code editor) and more functionality (network component, etc.) all the time. My wish for a release after 1.0 is that the developers could extend it to make it able for server side development, such as xml and javascript embeddng. I wonder if it would be possible to add a module for apache so that apps would do the processing on the server and deliver html pages to the client.
In any case a great application. Kudos to Benoit and his friends!

I think newbies learning Gambas will end up writing much better code than newbies learning VB. The portability aspect will come into play eventually, when someone manages to port Gambas to Windows (already nearly possible with cygwin, but a native windows port will not be possible until someone gets Qt-Free fully ported, and then there will be a lot more work afterward.)

In theory it's possible to write CGI programs for Apache or any other web server already. You'd need to write your own query string parsing and be sure to write valid headers out, but it seems to me someone will eventually write a library to do that automatically. Maybe I'll do it today.... if I do, I'll mention it on the Gambas users' list at gambas-user(at)lists.sourceforge.net.
-+- 24.195.0.17 = Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Konqueror/3.1; Linux) 2004-03-07 -+- Rob -+- -+- FYI, I did end up writing that CGI library for Gambas. It is primitive but will probably be enough for 80% of the CGI apps out there, the major sticking point being no cookie support yet. Someone else is working on XML support but it won't be available until after 1.0. You can get my library and keep up to date on Gambas by subscribing to the gambas-user list at sf.net, or at least checking the archives, which you can get to from the Gambas page at http://gambas.sf.net/ . -+- 24.195.0.17 = Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Konqueror/3.1; Linux) 2004-03-08 -+- Patrick -+- -+- Great! I've already wrote some part of code there and there for the IDE, but my job (vinegrower), don't take me many time for coding. Nevertheless, i've begin a site, for users who want to share theire, gambas sources.
http://gambas.magic-systems.net

All people who to want help-me to finish, correct, or fill this site are welcome.. because as i say on the top, i've less and les time, but i really want to have a communauty site. I'ts the better way to maintain (hem) users, and at lest the language.

Gambas pinta exelente.
tengo 2 horas con el desde ayer que lo vi, y ya estoy haciendo cositas...
no soy coder, pero pienso que este es un buen IDE al que se le puede hacer propaganda.
Asi que animo, empezemos a programar y a generar tutoriales....

Well done. I compiled and installed 0.97 last night and am eager to try it. I have been working in .NET in Windows doing small projects to complement my work. I need something fast and powerful because all I know is OO programming principles. Never used older Basic. I am hopeful that Gambas is truly Object Oriented.

I like what I see and thanks again for your article.

Por fin he decidido!!!
