China News Digest - Canadian Regional Services (Bo Xiong) --------------- >From xiaolong@cs.sfu.ca Tue Mar 22 14:45 CST 1994 Date: Tue, 22 Mar 94 12:38:51 PST From: xiaolong@cs.sfu.ca Message-Id: <9403222038.AA08240@doppler.cs.sfu.ca> Subject: Immigration to Canada(1) Hi, friends, after I posted a message answering a friend's question on Immigration to Canada, I got many responses. Sorry I can't reply one by one and here I just clarify some stuff here. 1. I am not a lawyer. I have a friend, he has been a Canadian immigration officer for many years and now is acting as an immigration lawyer in Vancouver, Canada. He has the Guan1 Xi1, not me. 2. There are many friends have applied for PR in Vancouver and all over Canada, I just want to share some information with those interested friends. If you are not interested in this topic, sorry in advance to bother you. 3. Suppose you know the basic ideas and I just mention some hints. a. The most important factors in the pointing system is the Occupation, Experience and Personal Suitability. For those friends in Canada's highly needed fields and with necessary work experience(includes RA and TA), you don't need to go through a lawyer(some friends' experiences and my personal suggestion). b. If your designated occupation's point is not high and you are not sure if your background fits or not. You can go and have an interview with an immigration lawyer, they are professionals and they will judge your eligibility. c. For those friends major in Math, Physics, Bio, Economy, Business, etc. The point in Occupation usually is not high enough for you to qualify. Here is why you need a lawyer's help. The lawyer can help you to apply in other categories. My friend did lots job recently with the immigration officers(his former colleagues) and he got positive reply from them. d. There are many friends around me who got their PRs recently, sorry I can't release their names but I can release my case(no job offer, visa student, no relative in Canada, no money bring in Canada). I graduated from Tsinghua Univ. in 1990 and worked there for two years, I came here last September for my Master and through my friend's help, I got the PR last week(landed), all the process takes about 4 months(Application -- Landed). There are more applicants now and the procedure turns slower and harder. My friend said he can give you a 100% gurantee if he would like to accept your case. e. To my knowledge, since October, there are only 4 Canadian consulates in US accept immigration application, they are NY, Buffalo, LA and Seattle. Sorry, I don't have there addresses. 4. If you are interested, you can email your Resume with necessary information, such as your age, education, work experience and language ability(English & French, Canada is a bilingual country and if you know both, more points), your spouse's resume(the lawyer will decide whose background is stronger and who will be the principal applicant), brief information about your children(if applicable). My friend would like to asses your case for free and let you know the possibility. As some friends reminded, you can use a fake name NOW for security reason. But if you don't mind, it's good to use your real name. 5. I mentioned 100% true for your resume in last mail just want to remind you if you provide false information, you will be in trouble during the interview. And if this happened, nobody can help you. I do know several(not many) friends failed by this. Sorry if it insulted some friends. 6. Generally you are required to provide documents as: a. Birth Certificate(necessary) from your birth country; b. Marriage Certificate(if you are married)or other maritual certificates (widow, seperated or divorced); c. No Criminal Record Certificate(almost necessary, but I was not asked to provide these from China and Canada)from your former and present lived places; d. Reference letters from your former and present employers(for china, a signed letter from your boss on the FORMAL letter paper is enough, Red Stamp is not necessary); e. Original or certified diploma for all your post secondary degrees, study and training; f. Please don't ask me how to get them, it's your business; g. The required documents are different from person to person and you should prepare them in advance. Above are the generally required. 7. For those friends outside Canada, such as in Europe and Asia, my friend can also help you. 8. Please don't ask me specific question, I am not a professionl and can't give you an exact explation or answer. My lawyer friend will contact you directly if you want to ask him to help you. Thanks for your attention and best wishes for your application. Li, Xiaolong at Simon Fraser University -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Included is the updated information about Occupation and Points.(Nov. 93) CANADA"S IMMIGRANT ASSESSMENT Independent applicants for Permanent Residence to Canada are assessed on 10 Factors, each assigned a point value. Briefly, here is sketch of the system: 1)AGE: Persons between the ages of 19 and 44 receive maximum points (10) in this category. Two points are lost for each year outside of these limits. 2)EDUCATION: To a maximum of 16 points. Persons who have less than a high school graduation receive 0 points. The higher the level of skill, the higher the point value to a maximum of 18. 7)EXPERIENCE: Again relative to the degree of skill required to perform a job, a maximum of 8 points are awarded for those with 4 years of experience in the most complex work. 8)DEMOGRAPHIC FACTOR: A number(to a maximum of 10), assigned by the government to reflect Canada"s need for immigrants.
