CND Changes Back Issue Archival Site ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- By: Bo Xiong, updated on May 19, 1993 CND back issues are now available via anonymous ftp on the sites cnd.org (IP: 132.249.229.100) or ifcss.org (IP: 129.107.1.155) Readers on the Internet may use the ftp service to obtain the back issues. Back issues are organized by CND's sectional services (CND-G, CND-EP, CND-US, CND-Canada and HXWZ) in the "ftp/pub" directory on cnd.org and "cnd" directory on ifcss.org. To use the anonymous ftp service, readers need to enter "anonymous" in response to the "Name:" prompt, and enter their email address in response to the "Password:" prompt. CND back issues, including HuaXiaWenZhai, are no longer available on the site "ahkcus.org." CND wishes to express its thanks to the Independent Federation of Chinese Students and Scholars in the U.S. for providing the ftp archival facility, and to the Alliance of Hong Kong Chinese in the U.S. for its accomodation of CND archival files on ahkcus.org in the years past. CND back issues are also archived at each listserver sites. For example, to obtain a listing of archives for CND-Global, send "Index CHINA-NN" to LISTSERV@ASUACAD.BITNET. Individual archive files typically bear names like LOGyymmw, where yy is the year, mm is the month, and w being a letter indicating the week. (Example: archive for first week of June is LOG9106A.) To obtain a particular file, send "Get CHINA-NN logfilename". For a listing of archives for CND-US, do the same to LISTSERV@kentvm.bitnet and the list name for CND-US is "CHINA-ND". For a listing of archives for HXWZ, do the same to LISTSERV@uga.bitnet and the list name for HXWZ is "CCMAN-L". ------------------------------------------------------------------------- * How to Use Anonymous FTP * To be able to use anonymous FTP, your local system must be on the internet network and has the FTP software installed. Normally you can check on this by simply typing "ftp" on your system prompt. Many machines have set up guest accounts for anyone to anonymous log in to download publicly accessbile files. CND has relied on machines, cnd.org and ifcss.org, to store back issues and programs. This access is kindly provided to CND and its readers by the Independent Federation of Chinese Students and Scholars in the United States (IFCSS). [CND is not related to IFCSS.] Following is a brief session of anonymous ftp: (The same applies to cnd.org, IP: 132.249.229.100) > ftp cnd.org (or ftp 132.249.229.100) Connected to cnd.org Name: anonymous Password: anything ls -l << this lists directory cd pub << this changes working directory to pub ls -l << list files in pub cd cnd-global << this changes working directory to cnd-global binary << set binary mode get filename << get file named "filename" quit [Note: you only need to set binary mode when you are downloading program files, compressed data or other binary files.] For how to read compressed file (de-compress them), consult your computer system manager or manual. In many cases, due network delay, an issue of CND was conboned into next day(s) archive, you may want to search for the dates before or afetr intended date for the file you need. CND Book and Journal Review packages are embedded in CND-Global, the CND B&J's are usually (but NOT always) posted on Sunday's/weekend's. Also, it happens that some files are empty ones, this is becsue of network problem so the machine didn't receive that issue of CND.
