1. IFCSS 2nd Congress Opening Ceremony

The opening ceremony of IFCSS 2nd Congress was held this morning in
the Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio. 300 some delegats and guests
attended the ceremony.
The ceremony began by observing three minutes silence to mourn those
who died in China's democracy movement.
After the opening address by IFCSS vice president Han Lianchao, four
guests delivered speeches to the conference and then IFCSS president Liu
Yongchuan reported the performances and operations IFCSS conducted since
1st Congress.
Three major sections of IFCSS reported Finacial Status, Council
Operation and Supervisory Committee Activities.
The following IFCSS working committees also briefly summarized their
operations since 1st Congress:
    1) Student Affaires Committee (Visa Committee)
    2) Theory Study Committee
    3) June 4th Radio Station
    4) Rescue Committee (rescuring those arrested in china)
    5) Press Freedom Herald Coordinating Comittee
    6) IFCSS Newsletter Editoral Board (Outcry)
    7) Organizing Committee for October 1st Washington DC Rally of 1989

Finally, in the morning's conference, a question/answer session was
conducted and delegates asked questions regarding to the reports by
the heads of IFCSS working committees.

2. Chai Ling in the Opening Ceremony

She really looks like an ordinary Chinese student here in OSU. This
morning at 8:55, when four of the CND members ran across her outside
the OSU student dorm, three of them did not recongnize she is Chai Ling
while saying "hi" to an IFCSS officer who was accompanying her.
In the ceremony, her speech is still very moving, passioante and
impressive, although delegates have been seeing lots of reports about her
since she came to US last May.
As Chai Ling briefly reviewed last year's student movement, she
sincerely told her audience that "many people told me, Chai Ling, you should
do this, do that, to keep up your public image, but I am really suffering
from their kind suggestions".
"My name Chai Ling means working, but I want a break too, sometimes I
have to refuse people's invitation by telling them that Chai Ling is my
job, but now office hour is over for today".
"The feeling of freedom is indeed great. I just want to be a real
human being, I just want to have my personal space, have my room, my phone,
love and many other things".
"I am facing the same problem as you all are facing, I want a place
to stay, I need to have fellowship/scholarship like you do".
"After all, everyone has a chance to make this world better, and he/she
should grab and cherish the chance, and share happiness with rest of us".
Chai Ling was whispering and everyone quietly listened to her.
CND talked to Chai Ling and Feng Chongde during the ceremony, they
would like to give CND a chance to interview them. But they were
invited to dine out and Chai Ling tried to decline but finally they
accepted it, so CND will find another chance to interview the couple.

3. Further Development of the Congress

The first session of this afternoon was free speeches delivered by
delegates and they expressed their concerns with various issues in
IFCSS operations and developments.
In the following session, delegates are debating/discussing the revision
of IFCSS Constitution and questioning the committee members in charge of
constitution revision. There are strong brain-blizards but delegates are
still speaking rationally.
In the evening, delegats will enjoy the First Concert by the U.S.
Chinese Students Arts Ensemble in 1990. Some (formal) famous Chinese
artists (Zheng Xulan, the famous singer, etc.) will present their talents
in music and performance.

4. CND Contacted Xin Hua News Agency Correspondent

This morning, during the conference break, CND members talked to Xin
Hua news Agency Correspondent Mr. Huang Yong who is viewing the Congress.
Mr. Huang told us that he is sent to view the Congress officially by
his supervisor. CND has set an appointment to interview him. We will keep
our readers informed of the progress of this news.
