New Developments ....................................................... 12 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ [1] US CCR and other Federal Agencies are on vocation, so the CBSIC can not reach them for follow up regularly. But US CCR is going to held a meeting in the first week of September in NYC. Mr. Huang Lin, national coordinator of CBSIC is trying to attend that meeting. Reliable sources said US CCR was making inquiries to the concerned Federal agencies and individuals. [2] CBSIC has located Mr. Eftimiades' new phone number after his evading our several attempts before. It is clear that he is also annoyed by the exaggeration of the news media. We have no other choices but to get hold of him since he is the central source of the current serial interviews. Mr. Eftimiades admits many people called him, including some federal officials. [3] After CBSIC's diligent research effort, It became apparent that the book has based on some unverifiable and sometimes distorted information. In one section it even mentioned that the IFCSS had been one of the sources that a huge spy network did exist. 6th term IFCSS leadership is finalizing its investigation on this allegation, and a statement is to be expected soon. [4] CBS-IC is going to locate more public displays made by federal officers since 1985 and have a systematic check on them. It appears that Mr. Eftimiades is not the only one, but the one who made the loudest noise and caught our attention. His sources include many public available materials, some of which had been distorted already. In using those materials, further alternations and distortion were apparently made to support author's theory. Those alternations then were amplified even greater to create the "largest spy network". CBSIC is going to address these distorted reports in a more thoroughly fashion. We can not let any false allegations appear any more in the future, unless there are solid evidence to support that China does become the largest spy network. [5] In its inquiry to DIA dated on August 5, Committee of 100 challenged the accuracy and reliability of the sources Mr. Eftimiades had quoted in his book, and his authority to release these information to media as a current DIA employee. Committee of 100 is a non-political elite Chinese-American organization which consists of many famous Chinese-American in U.S., including Connie Chung. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2.
