(202)347-0017 Fax: (202)347-0018 Email: ifcss@wam.umd.edu IFCSS President Met With Deputy Secretary-General of People's Congress ====================================================================== On January 10, 1994, IFCSS President Lin Changsheng visited the National People's Congress (NPC) in Beijing. The Deputy Secretary-General (Fu4 Mi4 Shu1 Zhang3) of the Standing Committee of the NPC received Mr. Lin and held a three-hour meeting with him. Mr. Lin Changsheng introduced to Deputy Secretary-General Liu Zheng the IFCSS's history, constitution, organizational structures and activities. Mr. Liu Zheng showed great interest and asked many questions about the IFCSS. Then Mr. Liu Zheng introduced the current legislative work by the NPC, emphasizing the 150 economic laws to be introduced. Mr. Liu expressed the hope that the overseas CSS community may contribute its expertise to this process. They exchanged views on the issue of creating better environment in order to attract more overseas Chinese students and scholars to participate in China's economic reform and development. Mr. Lin Changsheng also expressed the IFCSS demand that the overseas CSS community have representative seats in the National People's Congress, and then further explained the IFCSS stand on the issue. Mr. Liu Zheng listened with great interest and promised to bring the IFCSS opinion to the attention of the higher authorities. The three-hour meeting was marked by cordiality and informativeness.
