It aims to increase the openness and transparency of the IFCSS, and to encourage criticisms, suggestions and active participation from our members. November 8, Monday The representative of Hsu's Enterprises, Inc visited the HQ and discussed possible service programs for and cooperation with the IFCSS. Zhang Yunfei visited the HQ and help establish the service directory in FTP. The HQ appreciated Mr. Zhang's help all along. IFCSS President Lin Changsheng received a student representative from Nebraska, and introduced the IFCSS programs and work, and listen to the latter's suggestions on the IFCSS work. The HQ received 85 responses to the IFCSS newly introduced service program for air ticket to and from China. The HQ continued to contact travel agencies in New York and Boston to expand the service program of air ticket to China. The HQ made contacts with offices of the US congressmen from Florida and Texas. November 9, Tuesday Liu Xiaozhu contacted the offices of Senator Slade Gorton, Congresswaman Nancy Pelosi and Congressman Joe Barton. Julie Corwin from US News & World Report visited the HQ and conducted an interview of the organization. Liu Xiaozhu met with the US-China Business Council's Director Richard Brecher, Associate Sheila Melvin, and the China Business Review's assistant editor Ann Melia Flynn. A scholar from Ohio visited the HQ. November 10, Wednesday The IFCSS President Lin Changsheng sent a letter to Ambassador Li Daoyu, in which he requested that the IFCSS representative may meet with Jiang Zemin or his officials during the APEC in Seattle. The IFCSS is willing to open dialogue with the Chinese government on the following issues: i) assisting our members to participate in China's social, technological and economic construction; ii) the overseas Chinese students and scholars community be represented in the People's Congress; iii) suggesting that political reform be paralleled with economic reform; iv) assisting IFCSS delegation to visit their own country for the purpose of observation and learning. Li Chenjian, former IFCSS council member and president of Purdue University, visited the HQ. Lin Changsheng signed agreement with Eva Wang, president of AAA, to boost IFCSS telephone service program. Liu Xiaozhu visited offices of Senator Baucus and Senator Brown. November 11, Thursday The HQ issued News Release 5073 to update on IFCSS travel service program. The HQ issued News Release 5074 to kick off the campaign to establish the Anti-Discrimination Watch Committee. The nomination of Zhong Ling as committee's coordinator is sent to the council for approval. Nicholas Eftimiades, a China expert, visited the HQ. Lin Changsheng talked to Yang Lei, the would-be CSS president of University of Florida at Gainsville, and accepted the invitation to visit their campus. The Federation for a Democratic China invited Lin Changsheng to attend the Third General Assembly in Australia. The HQ evaluated the three proposals regarding education and science exchange with China. The HQ responded to the new comers' concern by sending a letter to Liu Chengyan, Chair of the New Comers Committee, and answered their questions. November 12, Friday Zhang Yalai, the IFCSS Humanitarian Sub-Committee Chair, discussed with Lin Changsheng over Jiang Zemin's visit and expressed support for the HQ's letter to Ambassador Li Daoyu. Liu Xiaozhu contacted the Chinese Embassy in Washington DC and talked to the First Secretary regarding Jiang Zemin's visit. The IGS President and Vice President visited the HQ, and signed agreement with Lin Changsheng to add more benefits to the Medical Insurance Plan. The HQ contacted and prepared the various news media for the IFCSS stand and actions over Jiang Zemin's visit. Lin Changsheng, Liu Xiaozhu and Huang Songyun were invited to a dinner party honoring Hao Bo-cun, former Premier of Taiwan, and talked briefly with Mr. Hao and other Taiwan officials. November 13, Saturday Lin Changsheng and Huang Songyun came to the HQ to prepared documents for the second council meeting. Liu Xiang, the Supervisory Committee member, called the HQ to arrange his visit to the HQ during winter vocation. Lin Changsheng spoke to Australian Student Federation's president Wang Rong-sheng to discuss the work of Global Federation of Chinese Students. November 14, Sunday Lin Changsheng and Huang Songyun attended a seminar given by Wang Jianxuan, former minister and now the leader of Taiwan's New Party. Lin Changsheng met with Shin-Chung Shao, President of the Federation of Chinese Student Associations in USA (Taiwan), and discussed cooperations with the Taiwan students.
