The Frustration in Naturalization Application

Having obtained US permanent residency for five years, green card holders come to the point when they can apply for US citizenship.  They naturally turn to lawyers for help, even if they know that they would probably be over-charged.  Some people thought of doing it themselves, but soon find it would take too much time and energy to gather needed forms and materials, because these things do not come from a single source.  Furthermore, they are very often troubled by this question: Do I know enough of US history and government to pass the naturalization exam?  They want to know enough but not unnecessarily more than enough because they have no time for that.

You Do Not Necessarily Need A Lawyer

The US Immigration and Naturalization Services (INS) has established a set of strict, yet specific, and clear regulations for naturalization.  You, a green card holder who meets the residency requirement, has no criminal record, and is of good moral character, can apply for US citizenship following the INS regulations.  Most lawyers charge hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars for this job you can do yourself, although you really do not necessarily need them.

But You Do Need Help

However, do you know all the critical steps in applying for US citizenship?  Are you sure you are ready to take the naturalization exam?  And, where exactly can you get the documents you need and file them to?  You certainly need help in dealing with all these issues, without being over-charged, and surely hope such help can all be found together somewhere - better be a single place to save you all the trouble in searching for information.  That is why we are here.

And We Are Glad to Help

Starting in May, 1998, the Independent Federation of Chinese Students and Scholars (IFCSS), through its Naturalization Service Center (the Center hereafter), will provide naturalization service designed to meet the special needs of the Chinese students and scholars and other Chinese nationals in the United States.

And the service is very affordable – a fee only a small fraction of what one would otherwise have to pay lawyers for their services.  The Center will provide with an inclusive package of documents and materials necessary for the naturalization application, which includes:

1. A cover letter;
2. A Question-and-Answer sheet addressing naturalization issues;
3. An original naturalization application form;
4. Instructions for filling out the form;
5. Instructions for having photograph taken correctly;
6. Sample questions with answers for the naturalization exam;
7. Preparation materials for taking the naturalization exam, including review of US history, government, important events and symbols, and additional questions and problems with answers/explanations on American culture, society, politics, and so on;
8. Other related materials

A careful study of this package should rid you of your concerns and anxieties, help you go step-by-step through all technical details, address critical issues, and as a whole make your application a smooth and enjoyable one.   We also have an experienced immigration staff to answer your questions on the naturalization application procedure.

The Center Serves all Chinese nationals.
