Then join us on December 11, 1993 as SVDC (Silicon Valley for Democracy in China) kicks off it's fifth annual Christmas card campaign for prisoners of conscience in China. Eat good Chinese food, have a good time and sign a few Christmas cards which we will send to dissidents and political prisoners in China. This is also a great way to network with people from around the Bay Area. This is an annual worldwide event supported by human rights and democracy organizations, politicians and businesses from over twenty-five cities around the world. Many associated parties will be held simultaneously in other cities around the globe. By combining our efforts, we will be able to send thousands of Christmas cards to people who need our moral support as they languish in cold prison cells in communist China. Last year over 250 people attended this event. A member of Congressman Tom Lantos's staff will be at the party to accept a human rights award on behalf of Tom Lantos. There will also be a slide show covering excerpts from letters sent to and from prisoners in China. Also covered will be the Chinese constitution and constitutional rights, pictures of some of the people affected by the Tian An Men Square massacre and graphic images of some of those who gave their lives for democracy in China. The ticket donation price is $15 per person including dinner (officially tax-deductible). Please make dinner reservations before December 9th. The party begins at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 11, 1993, in the Chinese American Culture Center, 1269 Forgewood Ave, Sunnyvale, CA. For more information call Jerry Destremps at (408) 720-0793 or Barry Chang at (408) 996-9000. Program Schedule for Dec. 11, 1993: 6:30 PM - Midnight Signing Christmas Cards (Feel free to just stop by and sign cards!) 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM Buffet Dinner 7:30 PM - 8:00 PM Speeches/Award 8:00 PM - Midnight Dance Party To get there: Take 101 South to Lawrence Expwy. Is there any way that I can use "GET" command (like to get back issues of CND-US) to get them? If it's true please provide me the address (like listserv@...). Thank you in advance. -- A Reader Answer: You can get them by sending: get china-nt log9312a to listserv@uga.cc.uga.edu to get the CCF published in the first week of Dec, 1993. Replace logyymmw with other year, month and week numbers will get you other back issues of that time. Please note CCF first issue was published in Sep.1, 1993. -- Weihe Guan ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chinese Teaching Positions (2) From: IN%"steng@asianlan.umass.edu" 12/3/1993 Subject: Openning at University of Houston "This list is established to promote communication among teachers, researchers and students of the Chinese language" Assistant professor in Chinese, tenure track, Chinese language and culture.
