README for qefp486.cqe.nwu.edu:/pub/chinese/cemacs/ This file created 2 May 1997 by Jyi-Jiin Luo GNU Emacs is the world's biggest and best Unix text editor. Cemacs is a method of using GNU Emacs to display and edit Chinese files, in either GB or Big5 coding. Cemacs has to used with Emacs on a Chinese terminal or under a Chinese terminal emulator program. One of the terminal emulators supported is Cxterm (Chinese Xterm), available by anonymous FTP at cs.purdue.edu:/pub/ygz. This directory contains two versions of Cemacs, one for GNU Emacs Release 18 (in the subdirectory ./emacs-18) and one for GNU Emacs Release 19 (in the subdirectory ./emacs-19). The Emacs 18 version requires patching and recompiling Emacs. For the Emacs 19 version, no patch is needed, although a one-line patch will help you in cemacs-auto-fill-mode in Chinese. If you are still using Emacs 18, it is recommended that you upgrade to Emacs 19 as soon as possible.
