Example: cnview -u === INTRODUCTION === 'cnview' is a free program to view Chinese/ASCII text file on HP-UX X-window. It can display GB/Hz/Big5 encoded Chinese text files. There is absolutly no warranty for this program. 'cnview' was compiled under HP-UNIX system with HP- STARBASE graphics library. SORRY for not providing the source code of 'cnview'. To read GB/HZ-encoded files, a 16x16 GB-encoded font is required; and if you want to read BIG5-encoded files, a 16x14 BIG5-encoded font will be required. For JianTiZi (simplified Chinese) users, two Chinese bitmap fonts and their HBF files are provided in the file cnview.tar.gz, no more fonts are needed. For FanTiZi (unsimplified Chinese) users, you must first get FanTi fonts like cclibf.16 & cclib.16a (GB/HZ), kcchin16.f00 & kcsymbol.14 (BIG5) and their HBF files available in the FTP site: ifcss.org under /software/fonts directory. Then rename these HBF files respectively as CNVIEWGB.HBF (for 16x16 GB-font) and CNVIEWB5.HBF (for 16x14 BIG5-font) that are internally used by 'cnview'. For example, cclibf16.hbf -> CNVIEWGB.HBF, kcm14.hbf -> CNVIEWB5.HBF. Be sure to get bitmap font files in *binary* format and HBF files in *ASCII* format. === INSTALLATION === Use the programs 'gunzip' & 'tar' to install cnview package. Put cnview.tar.gz in the directory where you install Chinese softwares (For example, $HOME/zw), then type the following two commands: % gunzip cnview.tar.gz [ENTER] % tar xvf cnview.tar [ENTER] cnview.tar.gz contains the following files: cnview.readme : The file you are reading now. cnview.config : New environment variable setting up, useful. cnview.usage : usage & help cnview : Executable program - Chinese Text Viewer cclib16.hbf : HBF file for cclib.16 & cclib.16a, not used. kcm14j.hbf : HBF file for kcchin16.f15 & kcsymbol.14, not used. cclib.16 : JianTiZi 16x16 GB-font cclib.16a : Complement to cclib.16 kcchin16.f15 : JianTiZi 16x14 Big5-font kcsymbol.14 : Complement to kcchin16.f15 CNVIEWGB.HBF : Identical to cclib16.hbf, used by cnview. CNVIEWB5.HBF : Identical to kcm14j.hbf , used by cnview. sample.gb : GB-encoded file sample.b5 : Big5-encoded file sample.hz : Hz-encoded file Before running cnview, please read 'cnview.config' for program configuration. Type cnview filename for reading a GB-coded/ASCII file, or just type cnview -u for usage (cnview.usage). === CONTACT === For any suggestions, comments and bug reports, please send an e-mail to: lin@mines.u-nancy.fr (before mid-July, 1994) or wen@mines.u-nancy.fr (for my new adress after mid-July, 1994).
