Even the most devoted dancers can't go all night. Many rave organizers create 'chill-out' areas, where partygoers go when they need a break or want a change of pace.

"Chill-out" or "ambient" rooms, which sometimes have their own deejays playing slower music, offer a place to relax, rest, talk and give backrubs. Dedicated ambient rooms with their own deejays have become increasingly scarce at raves in North Carolina. More often, a second room has deejays spinning a different kind of dance music. At a large party, a second (or third) room may host local deejays, while the big names play on the main floor.
A place to relax has become more important to many ravers, as parties have begun charging an additional fee for re-admission after leaving the building. The fee, designed to reduce problems of drug dealing in nearby parking lots, keeps partygoers from heading outside for a break. Instead, sweaty dancers cluster in hallways and corners to sit and rest. TOP |
