Future meets past at N.C. State FairFrom down home cooking to hypermedia, the 1996 N.C. State Fair blends the best of yesterday and tommorrow during it's 10-day run from Oct. 18 to Oct. 27, in Raleigh. Along with old favorites like the Village of Yesteryear's master crafts makers, the 1996 Fair features a tent dedicated to cyberspace and new communication technologies. Friday afternoon's Performance Market Hog Show highlighted a weekend of Livestock Competition. You've never heard a pig squeal until you've heard a pig get a massage! Despite an opening night downpour, Saturday and Sunday saw the Midway crowded with thrill-seekers and the grandstand thumping with the power of Joie Chitwood's Chevy Thunder Show.
Welcome Y'all!N.C. Commissioner of Agriculture Jim Graham has been been officially opening State Fairs for decades. Like in years past, visitors could be assured a warm smile and friendly handshake if they happened across Graham on the Midway or during the nightly concerts in Dorton Arena. Photos by Brian Whittier
