If I remember my history lessons correctly (hey, I'm too young to
remember also...), when seatbelt use became mandatory in many jurisdictions
(the seatbelts were installed, but nobody had to legally use them for a while)
the major arguments were that it infringed on people's rights by forcing
them to use something, that it would prevent people from jumping out of their
vehicles if they're about to have an accident (imagine, please, jumping
out of your vehicle just before a typical highway accident... if anyone
even has that fast of a reaction...), that people wouldn't be able to get
out of their vehicles AFTER an accident (which wouldn't be a problem if they
weren't wearing their seatbelts, mainly because they'd be either dead or
unconscious in most cases), that shoulderbelts would lead to breathing
problems, and so on.

Any procession of vehicles travelling at 30 km/h in formation through
the city would probably still be a funeral procession, lights or no lights.
Unless, of course, it's the O.J. chase re-creation... =)

Let's try a better comparison---third brake lights. As far a safety
features go, DRLs rank up with these in the usefulness category!!
