I have my mirrors set as wide as possible (they're electric, so I can change them
pretty easily), and I also do a shoulder check, which alerts me to someone changing
lanes at the same time I am. You have to be a moron or driving too close to the
car in front of you if you can't make a quick glance over your shoulder when you change
lanes. You only have to turn your head far enough to get a peripheral view of the area
directly next to you. I've avoided more accidents that way than I car to describe.
Suffice it to say at least once a week there's a car where I'm going that didn't appear
in my mirrors.

That's why I haven't had an accident in 16 years.
