(1) In my home city, Irvine, the previous mayor, Agran, a socialist of the two
wheel kind, endowed all of our major streets with wide bicycle lanes.
(2) However, Agran (he of New York bust fame) also realized that the good
bourgois citizens of the city would not tolerate our motor vehicles
slowed by pedal pushing zealots so he passed a law prohibiting side by
side riding and riding outside of the bicycle lane. Fair enough as the
lanes are wide most such local riders agreed.
(3) Well, wouldn't you know, some politically concious activist-wannabes
from the hallowed grounds of the University of California at Irvine
decided to upturn the law by organizing some mass rides using 'Le Peloton'
style a la Tour de France.
(4) Naturally, our fascist police, smelling overtime and free donuts,
arranged to swell the coffers of the city rather handsomly during these
running dog reactionary neo marxist rides.
(5) Needless to say, UCI students and faculty returned to their ivory towers,
Larry Agran got ousted from the Irvine Taj Majal (City Hall) and the city
is now once again suffering from cash starvation.
(6) So please, please come on down to Irvine and ride in double file. You
need not worry about Bubba in a pickup, but bring you VISA (American
Express too) 'cause the flashing lights behind you will make sure that
our parks are well maintained and that the donut shops are kept in the
black.
Thanks
tony
PS: Don't bother with your helmets either......
