Yeah, because you were running radar. Shut off the radar and people will
do 75! 55 is the most moronic law around, who does 55 on a freeway?
You're crazy to, you'll get shot in some parts. But, hey, you'll be
obeying the law.

My research indicates that a speed of 85 MPH is a safe and reasonable
speed. I base this on the fact that I've driven over 10 years and across
the country many times without an accident (knocking on a nice piece of
wood as you read). I've seen other people drive at 75+ for years with out
accidents. I am also inclined to believe what I see.

Reasonable is the speed at which your not pushing the limits of a) your
body b) the car c) the road. Why not an inspection every year or two to
see if a) your reflexes and senses permit you to drive safely b) your car
is in safe working condition?? I know of no state that actually does
this. Yes, I know a few states do "inspections" but they really don't do
a great job of making sure your car is safe, they check for absolute
minimums, I know I used to do Virginias every year. If you or your car
doesn't pass, you don't drive. Make rural freeways speed limit free. Have
LEO's enforce driving "safely". There is no set number. A Yugo is unsafe
at 55, but a Porsche 928S4 is safer at 100 MPH than the Yugo at 55.
