Informal discussion groups

From Saa2007

Jump to: navigation, search

We have the opportunity to use some meeting space to have some small informal discussion group "sessions" around topics that aren't covered by existing sections or roundtables. So far, we have two that look like they're coming to happen.

Archives and web 2.0 technologies: Friday, 8/31, 10:30 - 12, Room 723, an ad-hoc meeting space, located in the guest room tower on the 7th Floor.

A nuts-and-bolts of grants brown bag: Saturday, 9/1, 11:20 - 12:30, immediately following session 706 in whatever room that session is in. This is on, reps from NHPRC, IMLS, and NEH will be there. Please come!

Some ideas that have come up are:

- Archivists who are responsible for their own family archives (or "Ack! I'm now my family genealogist--what do I do now?")

- Planning session for the wiki for next year's annual meeting

- Becoming an archival consultant

- Enhancing finding aids with digital objects

- Discussing how to start a new roundtable at SAA

So far none of these other topics have enough takers to form a group. If you want to see one happen, round some other people up and speak up!
