These details are reposted (with permission) from an announcement issued by Lisa K. Miller - the Co-chair of the Metadata and Digital Object Roundtable:

A terrific program on born-digital archival material is set for the Metadata and Digital Object Roundtable's meeting on Wednesday, August 29, from 4 to 6 pm, as part of the SAA annual meeting in Chicago. We will have three presenters:

  • Lori A. Lindberg will discuss her dissertation research on developing a framework for archival description of electronic records. Such research as InterPARES and NARA's ERA is outlining systems and metadata requirements for electronic records that must be built into our archival descriptive systems. Lori is an archival consultant and full-time lecturer at the School of Library and Information Science at San Jose State University.
  • Catherine Stollar Peters will share her experiences archiving born-digital manuscript materials at the Harry Ransom Center. She'll be discussing specific tools and methods used in four Ransom Center digital archiving case studies. Come listen to the successes and setbacks she and fellow case study participants encountered along the way. Catherine is presently Archives and Records Management Specialist II at the New York State Archives.
  • Metadata development for the Persistent Archives Testbed (PAT) research project efforts at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC) Archives and History Office will be discussed by Jean Marie Deken, with emphasis on the work undertaken to evolve a set of elements that meet local and federal requirements, and are as compatible as practicable with relevant emerging national and international metadata standards. Jean is Archivist and Head, Archives and History Office, Stanford Linear Accelerator Center.

I hope many of you will be able to attend, and contribute to what is sure to be an interesting follow-up discussion with the presenters. Of course, the program will be preceded by our annual business meeting.
