[edit] Introduction
Hi! I'm Brad Houston, a May 2007 graduate of the History and Library Science (HiLS) program at the University of Maryland and former president of the SAA chapter there. Right now I'm in the process of looking for a full-time archives, library, or records management position, but I've had jobs and internships at institutions ranging from the Truman Presidential Library to the University of Maryland Archives to National Geographic. My primary interest in archives is access systems: the technical stuff like cataloging, databases, and MARC/EAD markup and tools, but also the 'softer' aspects of the sub-discipline, like building a better finding aid, providing effective reference, or figuring out how to best provide access to non-textual materials. This will be my second SAA annual conference, and I'm looking for ways to get more involved in the national organization and the Archival community at large.
I will be blogging the sessions I attend, but I'm not sure where yet; last year, I wrote up my impressions on the blog of the Student Archivists at Maryland, but as I'm no longer president of that organization it seems inappropriate to use it in that way again. I may start a new archives blog for the occasion, but if not, and if any of you reading this wants a guest blogger for sessions you can't make, I'm your man!
Oh, I should mention too that I am a Chicago native, so I am very excited that the conference is in my hometown this year. If you are looking for something to do or somewhere to eat while you're in town, feel free to hunt me down.
