Mark A. Matienzo is assistant archivist for systems and metadata at the Niels Bohr Library & Archives of the American Institute of Physics, located in College Park, Maryland. He has served as the Web Liaison for the Metadata & Digital Object Roundtable since August 2006, and is Vice-Chair (2006-2007) and Chair Elect (2007-2008) for the Description Section. He is also chairing the Rethinking Access and Descriptive Practice session at SAA2007. Prior to joining the American Institute of Physics, he worked as project archivist at the National Anthropological Archives, Smithsonian Institution, and as catalog librarian at ProQuest Information and Learning. He received his MSI from the School of Information at the University of Michigan and a BA in Philosophy from the College of Wooster.

His professional involvement outside of employment and SAA includes memberships in MARAC and Code4lib; maintaining ArchivesBlogs, an aggregator for blogs about archives and archival issues; and blogging at thesecretmirror.com.
