About This Wiki
From Saa2007
It seems that a wiki for the SAA Annual Meeting is an idea whose time has come. Several members of the archival profession were each kicking around the idea of getting a wiki started.
This included a pitch Cal Lee made at an SAA Publications Board meeting in April 2007 and some blog posts:
- How about a wiki for the Chicago meeting? - ArchivesNext, April 3, 2007 (by Kate Theimer)
- Ideas for SAA2007: Web Awards, Wikis and Blogs - Spellbound Blog, April 4, 2007 (Jeanne Kramer-Smyth, following up and expanding on Kate's ideas)
In April 2007, we joined forces to make it happen. Kate went into action, seeking out people who might be interested in contributing. Cal Lee asked ibiblio if they would host it, and they generously offered us the server, space, MySQL database and administrator accounts. Cal then installed the software, did the basic set up and has contributed a lot of content and structure.
Lori Eakin has done a great deal of the configuration, setup and design of the site.
Jeanne designed the great logo that you see in the top left corner. The Sears Tower in the logo is based on a remix of this photo by Scott Robinson found on Flickr.
We publicly launched the wiki through an announcement to the Archives & Archivists List on June 19, 2007.
More than a hundred enterprising archivists have created login accounts, and many have contributed valuable content and edits. For more information about the people who have made this all happen, see the Acknowledgments and Introduce Yourself page.
