Professional Profile

I oversee the Lane Medical Archives, which is the archival repository for the Stanford University School of Medicine. Our holdings include institutional records, collections of personal papers, thousands of rare medical books dating back to the 13th century, and a collection of artifacts (primarily historic medical instruments).

The Lane Medical Archives supports programming of other departments at the medical school (such as the Dean's office, the Office of Communications & Public Affairs, and the Office of Medical Development / Alumni Affairs) as well as assisting researchers both within the wider Stanford campus and outside Stanford.

I work closely both with archivists at other repositories at Stanford, as well as with archivists who oversee history of medicine collections at other institutions. I am particularly interested in opportunities to leverage new technologies when improving our services and collections. I have recently been profiled in the Stanford University Medical Center Report.

In my previous work, I have served as archivist at The Center for the History of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and have worked with the rare book collections at Phillips Andover Academy.

I also am working on a PhD dissertation in early San Francisco history. In my spare time, I am actively involved in the San Francisco Museum & Historical Society and the San Francisco History Association. I have volunteered for the San Francisco City Archives (which has involved news coverage), and serve as a consultant for the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Historical Society in San Francisco.
