Reggae Cowboy (Schrivener) - With Options

Music: Get Into Reggae Cowboy by the Bellamy Brothers at 120 BPM or Hot Hot Hot by Buster Poindexter
Choreographer: Gene Schrivener, San Capistrano, CA - information provided by Doug and Helen Moffa and previously printed in Country Music Weekly, with Debbie and Randy possibly teaching or submitting for publication.
Description: 48 counts, 4-wall line dance
Position: Individual line dance—all dancers face same direction, heels together, hands on hips
Comment: If you are dancing with strangers, do not assume you and they will be doing the same dance steps to these songs, or even to this title. There are many step sets by this name. The Longbranch used Option 2 for ten years. When the Silver Saddle opened four miles away in 1999, folks started using the choreographer's dance below. Also called Reggae Cowboy Shuffle

Repeat Counts 1 to 48 until the end of song.

5. Right foot stomp forward

6. Syncopated double clap

Option 3

This variation is often called the Diamond Reggae or Diamond Re-Gay and uses the following combinations of steps.

Start the dance with the Vine to the Right in Count 17. Substitute the following for Count 20:

20. Left toe touch to close to right foot

Substitute the following for Count 24:

24. Right toe touch to close to left foot

Replace Counts 1-8 with the following:

1. Right foot stomp forward

2. Syncopated double clap

3. Left foot stomp forward

4. Syncopated double clap

5. Right foot stomp forward

6. Syncopated double clap

7. Left foot stomp forward

8. Syncopated double clap

Substitute the following for Count 12:

Substitute the following for Count 16:

16. Right knee lift until thigh is parallel to the floor

Option 4

Replace Counts 1-8 above with Counts 1-8 below:

1&2 Step right foot forward, touch left foot next to right and clap hands twice

3&4 Step left foot forward, touch right foot next to left and clap hands twice

5&6 Step right foot forward, touch left foot next to right and clap hands twice

7&8 Step left foot forward, touch right foot next to left and clap hands twice

Substitute these steps as Counts 25-32:

TURNING GRAPEVINE & STOMP X 2

25-26 Step right foot 1/4 turn right, step left foot 1/4 turn right

27-28 Step right foot 1/2 turn right, stomp left foot next to right keeping weight on right foot

29-30 Step left foot 1/4 turn left, step right foot 1/4 turn left

31-32 Step left foot 1/2 turn left, stomp right foot next to left keeping weight on left foot

"DIAMOND" SHUFFLES

Do only half the steps for this movement. Instead of using Counts 33-48, you will only have 33-40.

33&34. Shuffle forward to front right diagonal-right, left, right

35&36. Turn 1/4 turn right and shuffle back facing back left diagonal-left, right, left

37&38. Turn 1/4 right and shuffle forward facing back right diagonal-right, left, right

39&40. Turn 1/8 turn right and shuffle back facing side wall - left, right, left

Option 5

Rearrange and drop a few steps and you have the Baseball Diamond promoted by Western Dancers - Line Dance Archives and Don Brown.

Start on Count 33.

Replace the forward steps with Option 1.

Drop the double vines and restart the dance.
