Discrimination is alive and well in North Carolina Racial - A country western club sponsored a sports team and banned its black player from the club. A black man was told to go to his club down the road when he tried to enter a dance at the local American Legion hall. Signs are posted to be sure you know who your guests are and they better be like you at a rural roadside club. Another non-membership club gatekeeper tells Hispanics they need to become members, but refuses to tell them how. Disability - Clubs still block wheel chair veterans from their rest rooms, if they can get in at all. A judge ruled at a recent hearing in favor of a club manager, permitting him to continue banishing folks from his club for any reason, including for simply having epilepsy. Freedom of speech - A manager refused admission to a gentleman in his formal military attire, stating that it would likely inflame his regular customers, presumably to violence. Critics are banned for telling it like it is. |
