Island of the Blue Dolphin by Scott O'Dell

In the Pacific Ocean, there is an island called The Island of Blue Dolphins. Around it, there are blue dolphins swimming, otters playing, and sea elephants and sea birds are abound. Once, people lived on this island. This is a story about an Indian chief's daughter by the name of Karana. Her tribe was moving to another island. Karanaís brother had run back to the island to retrieve his knife. Since Karana was the only one that cared for him, she felt obligated to bring him back to sail away. The boat sailed away without them and was never to be seen again. Karana lived alone for many years; she watched one season pass into another. She waited for a ship to take her away. While she was waiting, she kept herself alive by building a shelter, making weapons, finding food, and fighting the wild dogs. This is unusual story about adventure, survival, courage, and greatness of spirit. Everyone should read this classic book. Caddie Woodlawn by Carol Ryrie Brink Caddie was born in 1853 to be an adventurous little girl. That got her in all sorts of trouble. Caddie's mother wanted her to be a nice lady. She wanted her to learn to cook, knit, and to have polite manners, but her father wanted to give her a chance of experiencing freedom and enjoyment of nature. With her two brothers, Tom and Warren, Caddie makes life a constant adventure, swimming and exploring. Against her mothers wishes she even became friends with some Indians that lived close by. This is a great book for people who love adventure. Other books to look up in the library The Girl Who Changed Her Fate
