Tufts Training

In July, 1996, Meg Turner and Laurie Buck joined 14 teachers from across the country to spend two weeks at Tufts University,learning LabVIEW programming, web authoring, LEGO construction, aeronautics, engineering principles, and more!

Thanks to a grant from NASA,complex scientific principles can be taught at the elementary level and observed first hand through building with LEGO blocks. These teachers will serve as co-investigators on the LDAPS grant, using LEGO equipment to teach students basic engineering concepts.

This site will serve not only to document their adventure at Tufts and back at Seawell, but to provide a framework for subsequent teachers to prepare for their training.

To their surprise, participating teachers found out that "playing" with LEGO bricks is an intuitive, non-threatening process that leads to direct understanding of such concepts as force and torque. As the project continues to evolve, growing numbers of teachers and students will experience this exciting and innovative teaching and learning process...
