I have spent a lot of energy and time (20 years off and on)investigating Buddhism. With regard to Tibetan Buddhism in particular, I often found myself feeling that just as I would find something beautiful or truly meaningful I would have the rug pulled out from under me by discovering a seperate teaching that was in direct contradiction to what was previously proclaimed as fundamental to the dharma by the Dalai Lama in his writtings and interviews or other scholars. I was very appreciative to find others who experienced a similiar disappointment. More importantly, the e-book contained in the library on the subject of the tantric rites associated with the Adi-Buddha helped a great deal to explain much of the intellectual disonance I had experienced. The authors did a great service for honest seekers of truth by bringing to the fore the many "hidden teachings" which are in fact incongruent with teachings on emptiness and bodhicitta despite the Tibetan tradition's claim that somehow the Tantras complete the sutras and other more public teachings by philosophers such as Nagajuna and Chandrakirti. The author's documentation of the similiarity between tantricism and alchemy was revealing, as was the manner of fact illustrations of how Tibetan Buddhism holds self-contradictory beliefs in the guise of "Tantic" teachings which supposedly reveal the true meaning of the dharma. Thank you for making this information available to the public. For what it is worth, I think you might find what you were looking for in buddhism in suprising places. For the philosophically inclined, I recommend the works of Jacques Maritain or D. Von Hildebrand. There you can find teachings on the emptying of self, compassion, truth and beauty which are not clouded by contradictions or Robert Thurman variety of flights of fancy.
