Each National Governing Body (NGB) publishes a Media Guide for its respective sport. The Media Guides contain information on the history of the sport and the corresponding NGB; a list of NGB officials; profiles of the men's and women's national teams and their coaches; sporting records, statistics, competitions, and results; and media information. Some contain sporting rules as well.
The USOC also publishes a Media Guide. The 1996 guide describes the USOC organization, its purpose, goals, membership, and media services. Entries include: an Olympic Games summary; USA medals by year and by sport, USA all-time top medalists, multiple U.S. Olympians, and USA Olympic records; a list of National Olympic Committees and medal totals by country; descriptions and/or definitions of the Olympic motto, creed, rings, flag, hymn, mascots, victory ceremonies, opening and closing ceremonies, oath (including the names of past oathtakers), past U.S. Olympic Team flagbearers, past opening ceremony torchbearers, and the prices paid for past and future Summer and Winter Olympic Games television coverage. Additionally, for each Olympic sport, there are NGB-provided biographies on their own athletes and staff. Due to printing deadlines, this information is on top Olympic candidates for several sports since rosters had not yet been finalized.
