Finding AJC Olympic Articles |
|
DEPARTMENT NAME
The biggest tip: Use the department name Olympic in your search.
EXAMPLE: f dep:olympics and traffic
By using DEP:OLYMPICS in your search, you avoid pulling up stories that mention the Olympics but aren't really about it.
LEAD PARAGRAPH
Because we write so much about the olympics, it's a good idea to limit all
olympic searches to the lead paragraph of a story using ABS:
EXAMPLE: f dep:olympics and abs:traffic
This will greatly reduce the number of stories you pull up and increase the likelihood that they are actually the topic you're looking for. When you attach ABS: to a word, Documaster only looks in the first paragraph or two of all stories for that word. ABS: must be attached to each word that you want to limit to a lead paragraph.
BYLINE
If you want to focus on a particular writer, use BYL:
EXAMPLE: f byl:alma and byl:hill and coda
If a writer has a fairly unique first or last name, you can probably use just the one name. Who's Covering What? is a handy dandy service provided by News Research in case you don't know whose byline to search.
