During the next few months, the published stories from the
San Antonio Express-News and the
San Antonio Light that were digitally archived since
1989 will be moved to a new search software called Personal Librarian provided
by DataTimes.
Once the data migration is complete and installation successfully completed, we will retire the old Library System. Look for Party notices in April.
The new archive databases will be housed on a very large and robust fileserver on the network. Any workstation that is connected to the network, and has MS Windows and Netscape, will be able to access the archive database. There are about 80 such workstations scattered over the second and third floor newsrooms.
News Research will begin training classes early in 1997. We look forward to giving each reporter, editor, photographer and artist an intimate knowledge of the archive and an understanding of how to best retrieve what you need.
But the archive database needs a NAME or LOGO! We don't want to call it "the new library system" or "the archive" or "the database" or Heaven forbid "the morgue." These are all old expressions that do not appropriately reflect the value and the power of this new resource.
We think you, our expert WORDSMITHS, should come up with the name for this archive of published stories.
A similar contest at The Washington Post selected the name PostHaste for their archive database.
