A wide variety of statistical data is available on the web - much of
this information is provided by the federal government. Because of
federal cutbacks, however, many agencies have handed their data gathering
activities over to private organizations and professional associations.
The key to finding relevant statistical information is to first pinpoint
which industry, business, or government agency produces the type of
information you are looking for. Some of the more useful collections of
statistical data are located below:
U.S. Department of
Agriculture
Statistics Site result of collaboration between Cornell University
and the
Department of Agriculture. Contains both U.S. and international agricultural
statistics and offers many reports and datasets in spread-sheet format.

Economics site. The Current Economic Data contains the latest values for

National Bureau of
Economic Research
Carries economic time series for the U.S., United Kingdom, France,
Germany, and a macro history database with monthly and quaterly
analysis. Covers construction, employment, money,
commodity prices, foreign trade from pre-World War I to the end of World
War II. Data is ASCII and can be downloaded in DBMS format.
Ohio
State University
Financial Data Finder Links to banking and international financial
links
including Bloomberg, currency exchange quotes, J.P. Morgan, and current
interest rates.
Regional
Economic Information System Links to U.S. state, county, and SMSA
tables, 1969-1993. Data comes from the U.S. Commerce Department's Bureau
of Economic Analysis and includes personal income by source, per-capita
personal income, earnings by two digit SIC code, full and part-time
employment by industry and regional economic profiles.

Ways & Means Green Book An annual publication. Background and
statistical data on major entitlement programs: social security,

numerical health data, such as mortality, AIDS, or cancer information.
National Center for
Health Statistics Full-text of the National Institutes of Health
Center for Disease Control reports downloadable in Adobe. No statistical

Health Administration Data table for occupational injury rates,
1973-1993. Database of OSHA standards retrievable by SIC code. Data is
brief, no breakdown by state or industry.
