AMERICAN EXPRESS CORPORATE CARDS
ORIENTATION MEETING.
Any employee who generates travel & entertainment expenses on company business and who currently does not have a charge card, or does not wish to tie up a personal card with credit, and/or who will be making travel arrangements with Rennert Travel, should apply for an American Express Corporate Card. Please check with your immediate supervisor, as approval is required in some departments, to see if you are eligible.

- There will be an orientation meeting for all eligible employees in the third-floor conference room of the Ave E & Third building at 4 p.m. Feb. 5. This meeting is mandatory for anyone wishing to obtain a card.

EN CORPS

1997 LEADERSHIP STAFF. Diana Perez-Ibarra is the new EN CORPS chairman, Steve Jones is treasurer, and Estela Marin is secretary. Team captains are Tony Juarez, Ivy Kettinger, Frances Hamby, Gilda Terrazas, Mike MacRae, Kay Simpson, Glenda Chandler, Pat Valadez, Toni Chavez, Angie Garza, Willie Nesby and Cathy Nehr. Advisors are Diana Lopez, Fred Mergele, Veronica Salazar and Gene Downs.

MARDI GRAS PARTY. Would you like to help out at a party at Oak Hills Country Club to benefit the Epilepsy Foundation of San Antonio/South Texas? Volunteers are needed Feb. 8 for the following:

- Decorating, 2 to 4 p.m.

- Check-in and guest registration for silent auction, 5 to 7 p.m. - Assisting with silent auction, 6 to 8 p.m.

- Cleaning up, 6 to 8 p.m.

ADVERTISING & MARKETING

PROMOTION. Julie Weber, Retail account manager, has been named New Media Sales Manager. In addition, she recently earned her master of business administration degree from the University of the Incarnate Word. Congratulations on both counts!

RUNNER. Marissa Toland, part-time data entry clerk and ad assistant in Classified, ran the Houston marathon in 3 hours, 40 minutes and 8 seconds. She is now qualified to run the Boston Marathon, which will be held in April.

TICKET DRAWING. Willie Nesby of Transportation won four tickets to "Alice in Wonderland" at the Majestic; winners of four tickets each to Dragons games were Susan Pickens, Classified; Loydean Thomas, News; Jose Alaniz, Composing; and Leticia Mendoza, Human Resources. Thanks to everyone who showed up for Friday's drawing. Of those attending, Jalyn Mask and Rosa Acosta won Dragons tickets in the special opportunity drawing.

EZ SHOPPER

PROMOTION. Jan Russell has been named administrative assistant for EZ Shopper. Since joining the Express-News in 1991, Jan has worked in Subscriber Services as data entry clerk and, most recently, as secretary in Circulation. Congratulations!

INAUGURAL DANCER. Deirdre "Barbie" Williams performed with the dance troupe Carnaval de San Anto at the Hispanic Ball in Washington, D.C., for the inaugural celebration.

HUMAN RESOURCES

FOND FAREWELL. After 14 years with the Express-News, Sandra Frazier is leaving. She will be joining Benefit Planners in Boerne. Please join the HR staff for a "good-bye and good luck" reception for Sandra from 4 to 6 p.m. Jan. 29 in the Learning Center.

TIME MANAGEMENT. You can make time for this class, which will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 6. Learn how to:

- Find an additional two to three hours a week to work on "high pay-off" activities.

- Increase productivity at least 15 to 20 percent.

- Reduce stress level by gaining control of personal and professional time.

- Balance all the areas of your life and have time for things you value most.

COMPUTER CLASSES. There are still a few openings for computer classes in January:

Windows, 8 to 11 a.m. Jan. 29; Windows, 1 to 4 p.m. Jan. 31; cc:Mail, 8 to 10 a.m. Jan. 28; Excel 5.0 Part II, 1 to 4 p.m. Jan. 30; and Word 6.0 Part II, 8 to 11 a.m. Jan. 31. Tutorials are given from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Monday through Friday. A schedule of classes for Feb. 3 through 14 is posted on each of the Communication Center bulletin boards. Registration forms are available next to each of the bulletin boards. For more information, call 3989.

STRAIGHT TALK

DECEMBER WINNER. Julie Weber of Advertising & Marketing won $250 for her suggestion to promote New Media's help desk and advertising numbers and web address on the information box in the main section of the newspaper.

QUARTERLY WINNER. John Ellis of Creative Services won $500 for his idea, which resulted in the Sports Page in TV Now, bringing in more than $60,000 in advertising.

DINNER CERTIFICATE. Sara Benavides in Credit will receive a dinner certificate to L'Etoile for her suggestion to put IDs on printouts for her department, making it easier to know who receives the printouts and preventing duplicate copies.
