GET IN THE RODEO SPIRIT. Express-News employees may wear Western
attire to work through Feb. 17 to celebrate the Rodeo. Western wear should
be appropriate for work, including jeans if they are neat and in good
condition.
EN CORPS OPPORTUNITIES
GOING, GOING, GONE! EN CORPS will hold an office furniture sale Feb. 12,
13 and 14. All employees are welcome to browse through the 420 Broadway
annex building and bid on the used office furniture available. Hours for
viewing the furniture will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 12 and 13. Employees
making the highest bids will be notified Feb. 13. Items must be paid for
and picked up between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Feb. 14. Sale items will include
desks, file cabinets and office chairs. Proceeds will benefit the employee

MARDI GRAS. You can help the Epilepsy Foundation while having fun at the
Mardi Gras party Feb. 8 at Oak Hills Country Club. Volunteers are needed
for help with decorating, registering guests and assisting with the silent

COMMUNITY RELATIONS
BE A GOOD SCOUT. Two or three individuals are needed to operate the
Express-News' Explorer Scout group. The team will work with Joe Rust to
build up a new Scout corps of young people interested in journalism. Call

HONORED. Community Relations Vice President Veronica and her husband,
Ruben Escobedo, are the first married couple to receive the 1997
Brotherhood/Sisterhood Humanitarian Award from the National Conference of
Christians and Jews. They will recognized at an awards banquet, along with
three other local honorees.
HUMAN RESOURCES
SPURS TICKETS ON SALE! Hurry and get your tickets for tonight's Spurs
vs. Sacramento game. There are four tickets, regularly priced at $18, on
sale for $12 each; and eight $10 tickets on sale for $5 each. Call Eli
Rivas at 3975, come by Human Resources to purchase your tickets.
YOU'RE THE ONE CARDS. A new supply of colorful recognition cards has
been distributed to each department. Don't forget to use your cards to
say, "Thank You," "Congratulations" or just to brighten a co-workers' day!
Whenever you collect 10 cards (with 10 different signatures), you may turn
the cards in for prizes at the Company Store.
STRAIGHT TALK WINNER. John Ellis of Creative Services wins the 1996
Straight Talk award for his suggestion to create a weekly sports listing
page in TV Now. His idea brought in more than $60,000 in advertising
revenue. He previously won $250 as a monthly winner and $500 as a quaterly
winner, bringing his grand total to $1,750. If you would like to be big
winner during 1997, start submitting your Straight Talk suggestions now!
SPANISH CLASSES. Would you like to take conversational classes in
Spanish, if they were taught here at the Express-News? Would a better
knowledge of Spanish be helpful to you in your job? The Human Resources
department will set up a series of classes if enough people are interested
in attending. Miguel Holstein will be the instructor. If you're interested
in attending Spanish conversation sessions with others in your level of
expertise, fill out a Training Registration Form and submit it to your
supervisor for approval. Be sure to indicate whether you are a beginning,
intermediate or advanced Spanish speaker. If enough employees indicate an
interest, you will be contacted about class times and dates.

MESSAGE FROM PAUL ALLISON: Regretfully, the instances of petty theft in
our various buildings seems to be increasing. Employees should be aware
that we are making every effort to identify the thieves among us (be they
employees or contractors), using hidden cameras and other appropriate
security methods. At the same time, employees should understand that the
company will assume no responsibility for the loss of any personal items
that have not been properly secured in locked containers.
