"You don't have to be famous for your life to be history."

Welcome! The Southern Oral History Program is the country's leading institution for producing and collecting oral histories of southern life. For 35 years, we have recorded and preserved southern voices, from mill workers, to preachers, to presidents. We invite you to explore our resources, including how-to guides, news about our current projects, and, of course, our more than 4,000 interviews, many of which you can listen to and read through this site.

The Long Civil Rights Movement

Thanks to a grant from the Mellon Foundation, the SOHP and its collaborators have started work on "Publishing the Long Civil Rights Movement." Learn more about the project, visit its website, or read more SOHP news.

From April 2-4, 2009, the SOHP will host "The Long Civil Rights Movement: Histories, Politics, Memories," a major, multidisciplinary conference. Take a look at our panels, and register now!
