I've had enough
of the cold blood and shame,
I've heard enough
bad jokes
from the jugglers of blame,
I've seen enough
children begging
in Western streets,
as an expectant mother
looks down at her feet,
so tell me,
what kind of world
are we coming up in?
I've got the right
and the left
shouting at me,
but I have seen
the results
of their plans for me,
and while they hunt
for excuses
to wall themselves in,
I want you to
take a look
at the state that we're in
and tell me,
what kind of world
are we coming up in?
I believe,
there's far more to life
than they say,
and I won't choose
the lesser of two evils;
I'm so tired
of washing my face
in the greed;
people I'm asking you
won't you please tell me
what kind of world
are we coming up in?
see how the heat
is stolen away
from our lives,
to be stirred
by kingmakers
into bonfires,
and as the dirt smoke
rises up into your eyes,
see how our minds
are molested
to finance their lies,
and I say
what kind of world
are we coming up in?
there are hands
forced together
then torn apart
there are vows
forgotten
before they could start,
and when we
roll out history
across the years,
it seems our smiles
have been rained on
by our own tears...
but I believe
in something as simple
as hope,
though time has shown
we crucify our dreamers;
I still remain
convinced in the depth
of our hearts;
people I'm telling you
it's not a bad place to start...
and i believe
it's no good
to just say what's wrong,
the time has come
to talk about solutions;
though some may say
that hours of decision
are few;
but what if suddenly
the dreams should all come true?
