Spite presents:
A Hair-owing Experience
ominous also ominous

by Kevin Hines

One of the best parts of my job is that I have no dress code. That means I can wear shorts in the summer and blue jeans whenever I want. It also means I don't need to shave regularly. That freedom combined with my amazing propensity to be lazy often means I walk around wtih 2 or 3 days worth of stubble.

This past winter I decided to take the plunge and grow a beard.Starting at Thanksgiving (mid-November) until roughly mid-January. Thanks to the modern-day-miracle of disposable cameras I can now share my journey of facial hair with the readers of Spite Magazine.

I've been unemployed for about two months now. With all of that free time one would think I may have spent that time reading, writing, getting in shape, or something to better myself. I didn't write much, I read an entire 2 books, and I gained roughly 10 pounds. However, I did, for the first time since I was 19, grow a goatee. And this time, it grew in full. It wasn't a patchy formation of chin hair that if you squinted and shook your head looked like a goatee. This was the real deal.

Unfortunately, with a job coming up I needed to shave. But I was unwilling to shave it all off in one big swipe of my Mach3. I decided to continue to go insane, and photograph that insanity.
