SrI:

Dear SrImathi Kalaivaani Ratnavellu:

SrIman Thirukkudanthai Sampath Rengarajan has
sent me a note in response to your question.
SrIman Rengarajan is a Tamil scholar
and understands the nuances of the words in Tamil.
It is my pleasure to share his response with you:

>In tamil a name cannot start with "ra" garam. It has
>to begin with a prefix. One needs to be careful to make
>the prefix, as it could also make new meaning and one may
>loose the intended meaning somehow by attaching an incorrect
>prefix. The word "i"rangan means one who sympathise. Instead of
>"i"rangan it is often used as "rengan" or "Rengan". The word arangam
>and Rengam mean "the great universe" (a sqaure or a place where
>a "play" is taking place) where the drama is unfolding
>every second. (the drama of all the jivAthmAs coming & going, and
>serving the Lord and so on ..). Sri Arangan is the short form for Sri
>Aranganathan. Sri Rengan is the short form of Sri Rengarajan. (Rengi
>is the short form of calling Sri Rengan with uRimai!) Lord Sri
>Arangan is the master of this "a"rangu. The sanskrit word "Sri" is
>a prefix for everyone as similar to how Rangan is called as Srirangan.
>The tamil letter "a" replaces "Sri" when Srirangan is written in tamil. The
>tamil letter "a" means Sri or thAyAr or ammA. One can
>go on explain this "a"rangan with reference to AzhwAr Sri sutkthis. adiyEn
>think this is enough as a very simple explanation for
>this question.
