Post 6
Dear sri vaishNava perunthagaiyeer,
We have studied the pallavi and 6 charaNams of 'dhayaraani' the mOhana raaga
krithi of ST with reference to prahlaadha episode in sreemadh bhaagavatham.
[Just to recollect the krithi had the pallavi and 11 charaNams]. Before
concluding that aspect we will study two more charaNams.
charaNam 4
charaNa kaugili vELa chelagi mai marachEnu raama
meaning: At the time of embracing your feet, I forget myself.
SlOkam 22 of 9th chapter of 7th skandham of sreemadh bhaagavatham.
sa thvam hi nithya vijithaathmaa guNaa: svadhaamnaa
kaalOvasi-krtha visrjya visarga sakthi:
chakrE visrstham ajayEsvara shOdasaarE
nispidhyamaanam upakarsha vibhO prapannam ||
sa: - that one (the supreme independent person who, through His external
energy, has created the material mind, which is the cause of all suffering in
this material world);
thvam - You (are)
hi - indeed
nithya - eternally
vijita aathmaa - conquered
guNaa:- whose property of the intelligence
sva dhaamnaa - by Your personal spiritual energy
kaala: - the time element (which creates and annihilates)
vasi-krtha - brought under Your control
visrjya - by which all effects
visarga - and causes
sakthi: - the energy;
chakrE - in the wheel of time (the repetition of birth and death);
visrstham - being thrown;
ajaya - by Your external energy, the mode of ignorance
eesvara - O supreme controller;
shOdasa aarE - with 16 spokes (the 5 material elements, the 10 senses, and the
leader of the senses, namely the mind)
nispidyamanam- being crushed (under that wheel);
upakarsha - kindly take me (to the shelter of Your lotus feet);
vibhO - O supreme great;
prapannam - who am fully surrendered unto You.
Meaning: My dear Lord, O supreme great, You have created this material world of
16 constituents, but You are transcendental to their material qualities. In
other words, these material qualities are under Your full control, and You are
never conquered by them. Therefore the time element is Your representation. My
Lord, O Supreme, no one can conquer You. As for me, however, I am being crushed
by the wheel of time, and therefore I surrender fully unto You. Now kindly take
me under the protection of Your lotus feet.
Point: Since I am not an expert in telugu language, may be that the words of
the charaNam 4 can be regrouped to bring about exactly the above slOka content.
Viz. when I bow unto your feet, oh lord narasimha, I miss the 'time factor' and
thereby rise above that. For we all know prahlaadha is considered chiranjeevi -
meaning everlasting - one among the seven such.
Charanam 10
moodu moorthulakaadhi moolamu neevE raamaa
meaning: The origin [or base or seed] of thrimoorthi [s] is You only.
SlOkam 38 of 9th chapter 7th skandham of sreemadh bhaagavatham
iththam nr-thiryag rshi dhEva jhasavathaarair
lOkaan vibhaavayasi hansi jagath prathipan
dharmam mahaa purusha paasi yugaanuvrththam
channah kalou yadh abhavas thriyugO~tha sa thvaam
iththam - in this way
nr - like a human being (such as Lord krshNaa and raamachandhraa)
thiryak - like animals (such as the boar)
rshi - as a great saint (parasuraamaa)
dhEva - as demigods
jhasa - as an aquatic (such as the fish and tortoise)
avathaarai: - by such different incarnations
lOkaan - all the different planetary systems
vibhaavayasi - You protect
hansi - you (sometimes) kill
jagath prathipan - persons who have simply created trouble in this world
dharmam - the principles of religion
mahaapurusha - O great personality
paasi - You protect
yuga anuvrththam - according to the different millenniums
channah - covered
kalou - in the age of Kali
yath - since
abhavah - have been (and will be in the future)
thriyuga: - named thriyuga
atha - therefore
sa: - the same personality
thvam - You.
Meaning: In this way, my Lord, You appear in various incarnations as a human
being, an animal, a great saint, a demigod, a fish or a tortoise, thus
maintaining the entire creation in different planetary systems and killing the
demoniac principles. According to the age, O my Lord, You protect the
principles of religion. In the age of Kali, however, You do not assert Yourself
as the Supreme Personality of Godhead, and therefore You are known as thriyuga,
or the Lord who appears in 3 yugas.
Dear bhakthaas of raama, and narasimha, we have seen how ST has closely
followed prahlaadha charithram as stated in bhaagavatham and composed this
krithi. Though apparently this krithi is addressed to 'dhaasarathee, raamaa',
the krithi actually follows closely narasimha or perhaps ST has not
distinguished raamaa and narasimha. We will continue more on this krithi in
next post.
